Reddit is a… special place to say the least.
Between subreddits like /ToiletsWithAura, /AITA, /LegalAdvice, and I don’t know if there is another platform where you can simultaneously find the smartest and dumbest people alive engaging in arguments with each other on one forum, and shooting the shit like nothing happened in another.
Finding this place in my impressionable years meant that some of these reddit stories not only delivered the shock value the author meant to instill, but that it stuck to my teenage brain like gum in hair.
Some things are better left unsaid, others are even better left unread.
I unfortunately didn’t know any better at the time.
By me saying that, you would think I would have learned my lesson. I have not. I still read reddit stories to this day.
Here are Reddit stories that were so memorable that I still think about them today. I encourage you to read the full stories to get the full effect:
- The classic poop knife story
I think even non-redditors know of this one at this point, but there’s a reason for it. Poop kniofe is exactly what it sounds like – knife used to cut poop. OP’s family had one when they were growing up so they thought it was normal. They found out when they went to their friend’s and needed it that it was not. - Guy thought he was being stalked but was actually suffering of carbon monoxide poisoning
Man kept finding sticky notes left around his apartment and convinced himself that his landlord was talking him/breaking in. After the sleuthing of the internet, it was discovered he was leaving the notes himself because there was a carbon monoxide leak in his place, and it was making him forgetful. Turns out the sticky notes were him trying to remember stuff. - Guy can’t get off without thinking of his imaginary cockroach girlfriend, Ogtha.
Because why wouldn’t she have a name? He started having these fantasies and it just grew over time. To the point he couldn’t be with his human girlfriend without Ogtha on the mind. Which he told her about (it did not go well). He told his family, too (which also did not go well).

When a Reddit thread leaves you completely speechlessly changed. - Guy’s girlfriend hates his favorite song to play while they’re *ahem* together.
For some reason, this man had this experience and then decided to share it with us. His girlfriend told him his playlist that they were always getting down and dirty with was terrible, as he would then match the rhythm, and then… yeah. He shared the song with us and the internet as a whole flamed him for it. - Guy has a urinal in his living room and buddy used it while his girlfriend was over.
He hid the fact that he had this urinal for the entirety of the relationship up until that point, so her reaction when his buddy ripped the curtain off and started pissing was not great. - Guy trolled his cousin into leaving beans out of his famous chili because they’re too “woke”
His cousin was obsessed with the world becoming too “woke” and he was sick of hearing it, so he convinced him that everyone is saying putting beans in chili was woke. His cousin, not realizing it was a joke, left beans out of his chili due to this. - I also choose this guy’s dead wife
I don’t even have words to accompany this one. It’s unforgettable.
As you can see, some of these are from over 10 years ago, but so iconic that they live on despite the constant influx of content being pushed onto us.
Your stories are worth sharing, and worth having people remember, too.
